Move to Kennedy Way Medical Centre

Dear Patient

You may be aware that Frinton Road Medical Centre and Epping Close Surgery have been part of a scheme which will see these two GP practices move from their cramped and dated premises into a newly refurbished NHS site.

We are delighted to announce that work on the long-awaited £1.5million new surgery at Kennedy Way is now complete and will open to patients on Tuesday 4th May 2021.

Frinton Road Medical Centre and Epping Close Surgery will merge and become known as Kennedy Way Medical Centre.  Please note you do not have to re-register with the merged practice.

The new surgery will have several consulting rooms, treatment rooms and a dedicated phlebotomy room. This will allow for extra services to be offered including access to a Mental Health Nurse and a Musculoskeletal Specialist. There will also be a private digital suite which will be available for patients to have online consultations with hospital consultants where appropriate plus iPads will be available in the reception area for patient use to access health information.

In addition, a Community Group Room is available and the Practice will be working with voluntary organisations to host a variety of social groups such as dementia cafes.

Prescriptions

The Practices have been exploring options for Frinton Road patients who deliver in person their repeat medication requests to the surgery.  We have been striving to encourage patients to sign up to online services.  By registering for online services, there will be the added benefit of:

  • Shorter turn-around time meaning your prescription is issued earlier than paper requests.
  • Reduction in administration errors as you will tick which items you require and this will be received digitally so only those ticked will be issued, helping avoid wastage.
  • Additional box at the bottom which will allow for you to write any notes/comments or query in relation to a medication.
  • Helping the NHS in the global COVID-19 pandemic by reducing physical contact and paper requests.

If you find it difficult to order medication online yourself you also have the alternative option of permitting someone to have access to your GP online services and ordering your medication on your behalf. This could be your carer, partner or another family member.

To sign up online please either:

  • Download the NHS app on: www.nhs.uk/nhs-app
  • Call the surgery and one of the receptionists will be able to assist you; our staff can also help you set up your device for online services.

We recognise that online services are not for everyone. The Practice has a planned process for patients who will find it difficult to get to the new surgery to put in their repeat prescription requests.  Please contact the Practice to advise us if you need assistance with your repeat prescription requests and one of our dedicated prescription team will help you.

Car Parking

There is a car park for patients use opposite the surgery entrance. There are also dedicated disabled bays outside the surgery entrance.

Transport

For those who will have difficulty attending the new site Tendring Community Transport provides a pre-bookable Dial-a-Ride service which is free for bus pass holders. The buses are Covid safe and are sanitised and cleaned throughout the day. This is a demand response service and they are unable to hold slots so it will be on a first come first served basis. When you are booking an appointment at the surgery please let reception know if you are planning to use the service so we can assist in finding a suitable appointment time. The number to book this service is 01255 436962.
